Sites to visit in the lush island of Margarita

Assumption: Nueva Esparta state capital and a meeting of governmental powers. Small town with colonial features preserved of its time. The church dates from the sixteenth century and is one of the oldest in the country. It also is El Castillo de Santa Rosa which allows an excellent view of the valley, in small towns around there that have been selling hammocks, beads and crafts in general. From here climb the highest peak on the island.


Porlamar: Heart of business and night life of Margarita, the free port system allows the purchase of both domestic and imported products at incredible prices. Porlamar is divided into two sectors, the popular side, where the market Conejero and around the Plaza Bolivar, and on the other hand, the May 4th Av Santiago Mariño and that is where we can find store brand , banks, boutiques, cafes, casinos and more.


El Valle del Espiritu Santo: It is a small village that has the beautiful Basilica of Our Lady of the Valley, who is the patron saint of fishermen and the Venezuelan navy. The Virgin and the people in the course of the centuries form a harmonious whole. It is not possible to speak of one without thinking of the other. La Restinga: One of the most beautiful lagoons in which Venezuela, full of majestic mangroves and natural channels that can travel on board a peñero Margarita. The beaches of La Restinga is approximately 25 kilometers and is the one who joins the Macanao peninsula with the rest of the island. Have a beautiful bridge from where there are different peñeros that make the trip takes tourists and visitors to the different channels.



Natural Beauties: Margarita offers visitors, its natural beauty. On the island there are 2 and 3 National Parks Natural Monuments. You will love the Laguna de la Restinga, a National Park of 10,700 ha, the largest island, with a gap of about 25 km2 with beautiful canals lined with mangrove forests that take you to tourist boats and 20 Km beaches which offer different services. This gap is one of the few places where live the Scarlet Ibis, Garza red plumage. In the Cerro el Copey National Park is the highest place, the Cerro Grande 950 meters from where there is an extraordinary panorama of the island, which because of its weather, is very attractive from a botanical ornithological and do not forget to visit the attractive hill Guayamurí or two small hills located in a floodplain south of the Restinga, which by its harmonic form, like the breasts of a woman by the name of Las Tetas de María Guevara. Another is the Monumento Natural Cerro de Matasiete site staged during the War of Independence, the most important battle in the island


Gastronomy: The cuisine of margarita highlights the variety in the preparation of its dishes based on seafood products, shrimp, oysters, squid and other seafood. Among the typical dishes of culture you can find the usual Margarita empanadas dogfish, the cachapas, which are not original in the area, but make them as if they were, as to the tropical tastes there are a variety of fruit juices natural, and very popular cocada.
