National Parks:
Cerro Copey - Location: In the center of the eastern island of Margarita
Surface: 7130 ha (Decree 27 February 1974)
The park takes its name from the typical flower of Copey and is a natural drainage, where most moisture of the island. It is surrounded by valleys and plains and forest vegetation species recorded thin trees and shrubs. At the higher is the tropical dry forest and tropical rain forest, where trees thrive copey with its yellow and white flower.
Laguna de La Restinga - Location: In the North-Central that connects the east with Macanao
Area: 18,862 ha (Decree 6 February 1974)
It consists of a narrow string of sandy coast and lagoons filled with mangroves. The land bordering La Restinga belong to the Quaternary period. Near the main lake there are low-elevation hills, the most important are: Tetas de María Guevara (100 m) and Cerro Agua Verde. Gaps covering some 100 meters of brackish water, crossed by numerous canals. The plant is the largest mangrove genera red, black, white and botoncillo. In the coastal plains are found species such as Abrojo, añilito, sharp, cardón common, cují Yaque, guamacho, Agave, oregano, aloe, among many others. The most common birds are: soisola Margarita, patica grebe, Frigate bird, blue heron, heron, tortolita, alcatraz, etc.. Few mammals inhabit the area. Between amphibians and reptiles are: frog gray, green turtle, hawksbill, lizard and rattle. Among the fish are: Corocoro, Caritas, dogfish, mackerel, sardines, snapper and a variety of shellfish such as oysters, chpi chipi, Guacuco and pepitonas.
Natural Monuments
Cerro Matasiete - Guayamurí - Location: In the northeast sector of the island of Margarita
Surface: 1672 ha (Decree 27 February 1974)
There are two hills oriented north-south, separated by a slight depression. The highest peak is the Guayamurí 480 meters and the other to the south, is the Matasiete with 680 mts. Formations are igneous with gentle slopes. Primarily by a historic battle that was fought in its vicinity during the War of Independence. Trees and shrubs are thin stems, corresponding to formation of tropical dry forest.
Las Tetas de María Guevara - Location: In the eastern and southern shore of the island of Margarita
Area: 1670 (Decree 27 February 1974)
These twin hills of no more than 130 meters in height are in a vast flat area of the island and appeared in the distance, two breasts of women. They were given that name evocative tribute to a fighter in the war of Independence. Presents the same characteristics of flora and fauna of the Parque Nacional Laguna de La Restinga.
